Earlier this fall, we proudly celebrated Chaplain Appreciation Month and Spiritual Care Week. Our Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice team in Maryland honored two of our incredible hospice chaplains – Samuel S. and Caleb A.

These dedicated professionals are more than just members of our care team—they are a source of strength and compassion for patients and families during one of life’s most challenging journeys. Their work is rooted in empathy, respect, and a deep commitment to meeting people where they are, spiritually and emotionally.

What Do Hospice Chaplains Do?

Hospice chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to patients and their loved ones, regardless of faith tradition or belief system. Here’s how they make a difference every day:

  • Listening with Compassion: Chaplains create a safe space for patients and families to share fears, hopes, and reflections.

  • Offering Comfort and Peace: Through prayer, meditation, or simply being present, they help ease emotional and spiritual distress.

  • Supporting Families: Chaplains walk alongside loved ones, offering guidance and reassurance during times of grief and uncertainty.

  • Respecting All Beliefs: Their care is inclusive, honoring each person’s unique spiritual journey.

Our chaplains exemplify these values in every interaction. Their dedication brings comfort, peace, and hope to those we serve—reminding us that hospice care is not just about medical support, but about nurturing the whole person.

To Samuel, Caleb and all our chaplains across the country: thank you for your unwavering compassion and for making a profound difference in the lives of our patients and families.
